TEXAS YAHOOOO

We just returned from Texas and what a great event. As I have stated before if I only made one AHRMA National a year this would be it.

Team Wyckoff saw the return of my son Rick Myers as passenger. He did a great job and seems to returning to form after a year off recovering from injuries. Moto one sticks in my mind for the 2nd turn action. The 3 leading teams all entered the corner together and the roost was incredible. We were in a sandwich between the other two teams and all I saw was roost going over my shoulder. Ultimately we finished 2nd in the first race after Janette Player did a cartwheel off the sidecar in 2nd. That in it’s self is a great story fortunately she was not hurt and was up and running after her driver. She took this header on a left hand corner on the fastest part of the course. They recovered for a 4th after she caught up to her driver who was a good hundred yards down the track before he knew she was gone. This was the subject of many stories that night at the after dark parties.

Race 2 started in much the same manner only this time Morgan and Janette started in first and finished there, we pulled a safe 3rd for 3 rd over-all. The over-all winners were the team from New Mexico, Dave and Jim were in top form on their 700 Zabel/VMC. They finished 1st in race one and 2nd in race two. Dave’s brother won the big bore class on his EML/Yamaha and for most of one moto stuck the monster on my back fender. I did all I could to shake him but he hung in there till the last half of the last lap what a great ride he had. We had 7 sidecars on the track and Diamond Don did a great job of prepping and providing a track sidecars were very happy on.

On the vintage side of the event my 71 Maico ran well and I finished 5th over-all I think in the 50+ class. I need to check the www.ahrma.org site to see the official results.

A big thanks to Morgan and Janette who really extended themselves helping with the cost and driving chores over this long trip. Texas would have been impossible with out them, thank you both very much.
