local tracks suck

You would think that internal squabbling, hate and discontent and general nastiness might be unique to your favorite sport. NOT, spend some time wandering on the different BBS pages and you find it very common. There are some really brave people out there hiding behind the computer and more than enough wanna be’s stirring up crap. I wonder how many would do in a real face to face confrontation. The Sidecar world seems to be filled with it and not just here in the USA.Another issue that spans both vintage and sidecars is acceptable tracks. Locally here in Southern California it is impossible to find a track that is not filled with pointy little and large jumps. These are death traps on vintage bikes and sidecars. I just left the local track here in Adelanto (Race Town) and the supposed vet track as they call it.
It has a number of these types of leg breakers just before the entrance of corners. Why do they do this, is it because they like to see vintage and Evo bikes cart wheeling over the berm? The culture in local mx is jacked up all these guys know is how far you can jump, they have lost the idea of racing. The last time I went to this track as I was leaving a kid asked me (Pointing at the sidecar) how do you jump that thing? That in a nut shell is all he knows about racing and the guys on the tractors are not much older than he is and they build the tracks.
Southern California needs a place where vintage bikes and such can practice without the fear of damage to one’s body. All over the country there has been private hunting clubs popping up. The concept is to purchase a large area of land, fence it off and allow only members (investors) to have access. The model could be used to set up a 20 or 30 acre privately owned park for vintage and Evo and have a safe place to practice. It would take someone to organize and gather up the partners or investors to do it. To me it’s an idea that needs done and soon before all the available land is gone or counties regulate private land to the point you can’t do it. As it stands now all vintage clubs use existing race tracks or OHV parks and with the small numbers compared to the modern bike riders it is just a matter of time before we lose out to the jump nuts.
